When determining the architectural and residential design for its classic southern homes at Quail Run, a masterplanned community in Chambers County, Ala., West Point developer, Greater Valley Group (GVG) called upon two of the Southeast’s leading experts in the architecture and residential design field.

To ensure they captured idyllic traditional southern architecture, GVG commissioned James. L Strickland, founder and president of Historical Concepts, an Atlanta-based architectural firm and L. Mitchell Ginn, founder of Newnan, Ga., based L. Mitchell Ginn and Associates, Inc., who together have combined experience in excess of 50 years.

Strickland, who has been recognized nationally for designing southern historic homes, recently helped design the 2010 Southern Living Idea Home in Senoia, Ga. Strickland has also worked on numerous homes across the Southeast including The Reames Residence in Atlanta that was the recipient of the Shutze Award in 2008. Ginn has also been acknowledged for his work including the notable 2006 Southern Living Idea House on Daniel Island in South Carolina.

“Bringing in Mr. Strickland and Mr. Ginn allowed us to utilize their architectural expertise,” said Tim Randolph, chief operating officer for Southern Place Homes, builders at Quail Run. “I think once you visit Quail Run, you will understand the benefits of us working with two of the Southeast’s most respected architects.”

During Quail Run’s initial design stages, Strickland worked closely with GVG to design what is known as the Cannon House in the community. Shortly after the initial design elements were put into place, Ginn was brought in on the project to help implement and revise existing plans that had already been drawn. Ginn also drew a few plans of his own including the Kendall, Ashley, Rutledge and Miss Maggie models.

Models include ranch, two-story and traditional all of which are classically southern. Each home sits on close to one third of an acre, and range in size from 1,800 to 4,000 square feet.

The Southeast’s newest hunting preserve, Twisted Pine Hunting Preserve announced today that it will open for business Saturday, September 4, the first day of dove season.

The preserve features over 2,100 acres of prime hunting land in east central Alabama and western Georgia. Properties include 1,700 acres in Chambers County, Ala., for quality deer and turkey hunts and a 45-acre dove field in Harris County, Ga.

A variety of hunts are available for the avid whitetail deer, eastern turkey and dove hunter. Reservations can be made by calling 706-643-5888 or by visiting their web site at www.TwistedPineHuntingPreserve.com.

Three and four day hunting packages, which include accommodations in comfortable cabins at Southern Harbor Marina on beautiful West Point Lake, are available for turkey and deer hunting, respectively. Dove hunts are single day events.

Managed by Kyle Farner, an avid lifelong hunter with a degree in Fishery, Wildlife and Conservation Biology from Colorado State University, this exclusive property is intensively managed. Controlled burns, supplemental feed, mineral stations, food plots, predator control and selective harvests insure long-term success in providing quality, mature bucks, gobblers and dove for avid sport hunters.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to bring this natural preserve to experienced and novice hunters alike,” Farner commented. “Our location is near pristine, and close enough to Atlanta, Columbus, Montgomery, Huntsville and Chattanooga to appeal to a wide range of hunting enthusiasts who want to hunt in a new location. Our packages are very reasonable and include access to all the options of West Point Lake, too. It’s ideal, and we’re looking forward to a great first year. We just got our website up and we’ve already got hunts scheduled,” Farner concluded.

“Twisted Pine Hunting Preserve is very convenient to Quail Run,” said Jeanne Charbonneau, public and community relations director for Greater Valley Group, the developer of the master-planned community in Chambers County, Ala. “Kyle has generously donated two opening-day dove hunting packages as prizes for us to give away at our upcoming open house, which is Friday, August 13 from 4 to 7 pm. Open house visitors will be eligible to win these prizes, which will be given away at 7 pm,” Charbonneau concluded.

Home buyers looking for West Point Ga homes should consider buying a new home in Quail Run or Riverside Estates in Lanett, Ala., just minutes from West Point and with the advantage of lower Alabama taxes. The homes are close to Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia and outdoor recreation such as Twisted Pine Hunting Preserve and West Point Lake, letting home owners spend less time on the commute and more time on play.
